About us

Deutsche Hochschule für Medizin College is established in 2019 by young visionary female Ethiopian who have been in Germany for a decade, expects to play her part in the development process of the country by providing medical professionals in response to the government’s encouragement for the involvement of the private sector in education.
All these have described the necessity for the structure and process of medical education. Such reconstruction is essential to: Prepare medical doctors and other professionals for the needs and expectations of the society and practice settings of Ethiopia; Cope with the explosion in medical scientific knowledge and technology; Inculcate physicians' ability for lifelong learning: Ensure training in the new information technologies, communication skills " ethical and moral values, and behavioral science; and, adjust medical and health education to changing condition in the health care delivery system. However, the curriculum is designed to conform to the change in national policy framework.
The curriculum designing committee is composed of Medical educators, but it doesn’t involve students and rather it includes pedagogic and quality assuring experts,

Philosophy: 

Health is not a privilege but a right of all people that, individuals, families and communities have the responsibilities of maintaining their own health which leads them to having a productive life in all aspects.
Health professionals are playing important roles in making individuals capable in maintaining their own health. The ultimate aim of the health professionals is helping human beings to maintain their health by playing a significant role in investigative, preventive and promotive services that help them attain independent and quality life.
Education is the major tool that equips the health professionals with the knowledge and skills needed for the provision of efficient services. The college believes that students with adequate knowledge and skills will be efficient and competent to overcome the challenges ahead and address their responsibilities satisfactorily.

Justification:

Although Ethiopia has made great progress in the improvement of health, its service coverage remains far below the target proposed in its Health Sector Development Plans. This is a result of the complex dynamic interaction between such factors as population growth, limited expansion in health service infrastructure and an acute shortage of trained human power.
In its Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) the government has vowed to assure accessibility of health care for all segments of the population and the promotion and the promotion of the private sector’s participation in this strengthened and motivated to provide the citizens with the required health services and human power development.
Thus, the current engagement of the college in the high-level human power training and development is a timely response to a national call and a significant problem. With its noble vision and mission fully supported by its preparation, it firmly believes that it is competent to carry out its plans.
In a country where over 2/3 of the health problems is nutritional, communicable and infectious diseases, much is desired in terms of task oriented and community-based interventions. National capability in research is very limited and the professionals to carry them out are scarce. This is, therefore, both an opportunity and a national obligation for Deutsche Hochschule für Medizin to embark upon.
